Tyrrell County Sheriff’s Office receives grant for trauma kits

Tyrrell County Sheriff’s Office applied for a grant with Vidant Chowan Hospital Foundation for 2021 and was awarded funding to purchase and equip the entire patrol division with medical and ankle trauma kits.

Vidant Health makes a substantial donation to the Vidant Health Foundation each year to support the Community Benefit Grants Program, according to a press release from the Tyrrell County Sheriff’s Office. The purpose of Vidant Health’s Community Benefits Grants is to positively impact the health of people who live in communities served. The program focuses on early detection, wellness and prevention, community health initiatives and direct health care services, stated the release.

This grant was prepared and submitted by Deputy Treven Franks, grant coordinator for the Tyrrell County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Kevin Sawyer said, “I’m thrilled deputies now have trauma medical kits in their patrol vehicles should a critical incident arise! The deputies will be equipped to provide triage care to control a severe bleeding or gunshot situation while awaiting EMS to arrive. We thank VHF for the funding and continued support.”
