Duck seeking floats, veterans, kids, dogs for July 4 parade

The Town of Duck is seeking entries for its Independence Day parade on Wednesday, July 4 at 9 a.m.

The traditional one-mile parade route begins at the crest of the hill on Scarborough Lane. The route follows Scarborough Lane east toward the ocean, turns left onto Ocean Way, and loops back to head west on Christopher Drive and ends at Pamela Court. No part of the parade takes place on Duck Road (NC 12). Judging of parade entries will take place at 111 Scarborough Lane.

Immediately after, there will be trophy presentations at Duck Town Park, 1200 Duck Road. Honors include a mayor’s award, spirit award, best business entry and best community group.

All floats, local business entries, moving vehicles, community groups and Duck subdivisions and groups of walkers are required to register to participate in the parade. Registration is open until noon Wednesday, June 20.

This year, Duck invites all veterans to walk or ride in the parade with the local veterans group. To participate, please sign up on the Town of Duck website under the events tab.

Each year, children over the age of eight are invited to participate on bikes or foot, and Outer Barks coordinates a group of canine parade walkers. Children and dog owners who wish to be a part of these group do not need to register.

Children should be accompanied by an adult, and applicable parade guidelines must be followed. The parade registration packet, which includes information, guidelines and the entry form, can be found at www.townofduck.com. For more information, email events@townofduck.com or call 252-255-1234.
