In their second home meet of the 2019 season on March 27, both Manteo High School boys and girls track teams finished in first place with 178 and 128 points respectively.

Both teams also re-established pole vaulting programs and vaulters set new school records in those events.

In boys pole vaulting competition, Brian Sykes and Emmauel Tadeo Perez both cleared 7 feet with Sykes earning first place on fewer misses. The lone female pole vaulter, Darcy Kampe, cleared 6 feet 6 inches for first.

The 4×200 boys team of Dylan Sharp, Sam Wright, Nathan Jarvis and Dakota Meekins won that event with a 1:54 while the 4×800 team of Weston Smith, Trent Jones, Landon Taylor and William Pendleton turned in a winning time of 9:41.

Redskins boys continued to dominate the discus event finishing 1-2-3 for the second week in a row. J’Veon Tate had the first place throw with a distance of 117 feet 10 inches, while on the track Sam Wright’s :51.1 took first place in the 300 meter hurdles. In the 400 meter run, Redskins Ryan McOwen and Claveon Rice went 1-2 with times of :56.5 and 1:00.2 respectively. McOwen came back in the 200 with a winning time of :23.8 to win.

Other first place finishes for Manteo boys included Ryan McOwen in the high jump (5-4), Trent Jones in the triple jump (33.05)

For Manteo girls, it was Jania Charity winning the 100 meters (:13.8) and teammates Morgan Owens and Emma Daniels finished 1-2 in the 800 meter run with times of 3:05 and 3:45.5 respectively.

Other first place Manteo girls included the 4×100 team of Lindsey Gonzalez Martinez, Ashanti Pledger, Amanda Henley and Kaitlyn Burchette (1:08.3), the 4×800 relay team of Morgan Owens, Aiyana Mourino, Ainsley Ludolph and Tiffany Fenz (13:54), Darcy Kampe in the high jump (4-4), and Jania Charity in the triple jump with a mark of 27.03.

On Wednesday, April 3, Manteo boys won their third straight home meet in a row with a score of 93 points over Gates County, Camden County and Cape Hatteras. The Girls finished second with a score of 59 points behind Camden County who won the meet with 93 points.

Pole vault competition continued for the second week with Manteo’s Emmanuel Tafeo Perez taking first place with his 7 foot 6 inch vault. Teammate Brian Sikes equaled the height with his effort but was placed second on a tie break rule. Finishing out the boys competition was Blake Parrish with his jump of 7 feet for third. The lone girl vaulter, Darcy Kampe, earned first place with her vault of 6 feet.

In other field events, Manteo boys made it a 1-2-3 sweep in the shot put with J’Veon Tate (39 feet 6 1/2 inches), Thomas Orgsbon (36 feet 4 1/2 inches) and Kyle Soles (35 feet 4 inches). Tate also posted a 122 foot discus throw for first place points.

Manteo boys racked up first place points in relay competitions winning the 4X800 and 4×400. Weston Smith, Trent Jones, Landon Taylor and William Pendleton achieved the winning time of 9:12.03 in the 4×800. Ryan McOwen, Taylor, Jones and Claveon Rice had a 3:48.5 mark in the 4×400.

In other track events, Sam Wright took first with his time of :16.99 in the 110 meter high hurdles, Trent Jones won the 800 with a 2:17.09 and Mekhi Bias won 200 meter dash (:23.64).

Manteo girls competition saw Darcy Kampe continued her winning ways in the high jump (4-4). Dominating the horizontal jumps Jania Charity won both the triple jump (30-7) and the long jump (13-5). On the track it was Morgann Owens and Tiffany Fenz going 1-2 in the 800 meter run posting times of 2:51.9 and 3:02.5 respectively.

Results for Cape Hatteras athletes were not provided.
