Albemarle Area United Way sets sixth annual Bocce, Beer & Bites event

Albemarle Area United Way will gather at Waterfront Park in Elizabeth City again this spring to hold its sixth annual Bocce, Beer & Bites event. The event will take place on Saturday, April 27, 2024 from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

This popular event, typically attracting 350 attendees, will enable up to 48 teams to compete in the double elimination bocce tournament consisting of four-person teams. Teams can be purchased for $200 until sold out or until April 19. Each team member as well as spectators who purchase a $30 ticket receives two craft beers, a full barbecue plate and a Kona shave ice. Meal-only tickets can be purchased at $20 each, or a family four-pack can be purchased for the discounted rate of $70. Complimentary bottles of water and assorted canned sodas are available to all throughout the event.

“We’re excited to host this very popular community fundraising event. Each year we’ve seen an increase in participation and sponsorships,” said Bill Blake, executive director. “Bocce is easily played by all ages and skill levels as evidenced by the fact that we’ve had different winning teams in the past competition. The real winners are our friends and neighbors who benefit from the programs and services supported by your local United Way,” Blake added.

Those interested in participating should visit the website at aaunitedway.org/bbb to purchase team or individual tickets. Anyone interested in volunteering or sponsoring should contact Nancy Whitfield at 252-333-1510.
