Drowning death reported in Southern Shores

The drowning death of a 68-year-old man has been reported in Southern Shores.

Emergency personnel responded to the report of an unresponsive person being pulled from the surf the afternoon of Saturday, May 25 in the area between 1st Ave. and 2nd Ave. in Southern Shores, according to a media release from the Southern Shores Police Department.

First responders were from Dare County EMS Station 4, Fire Station 12 Rescue and officers from the Southern Shores Police Department. Bystanders started CPR and were relieved by emergency personnel.

The release stated that eye witnesses reported both the deceased, John Albright, and his wife appeared to be caught in a rip current. The medical examiner will determine if an autopsy is required.

Albright is also a Southern Shores homeowner.
