First Flight High School faced Manteo Thursday night on the basketball court. The Manteo JV boys team pulled out a win, ending in a score of 75-67. The girls teams played a very close game, but MHS came out victorious with a final score of 49-40. For the boys varsity game, FFHS won in a final score of 85-49.

Chad Williams, FFHS athletic director, said all the games were exciting to watch. “The JV game went down to the fourth quarter, but Manteo pulled it out.” He also mentioned that the Nighthawk girls were off to a good start in the first half, outscoring MHS by 17 points. However, Manteo made a comeback in the second half and was able to dominate in the end.

For their big win in the varsity game, Williams said MHS did well in the first quarter, but at halftime, First Flight made the proper adjustments to lead them to a win. They scored a compelling 49 points in the third and fourth quarters, which made the Nighthawks the rivalry champions this time around.

Leading scorer for MHS in the varsity game was Darren Saunders, who also won the title of player of the game. James Gilreath and Wolfie Schultz followed with a combined total of 22 scored points.

Dylan Blake led his team in most points scored for FFHS; he totaled 39 points scored for his team. Isaac Dobie, Jordan High and Joseph Davidson were all high scorers as well, bringing in 42 points combined for the Nighthawks.
