Weekly Devotion – John 10:10

By Mike Caton

John 10:10, The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

Jesus makes it clear the thief comes only to cause mayhem. He only cares about himself, and is looking for an easy way. But the result is, he makes things hard for everyone else. What he thinks will be of a benefit to him, he steals; what is not interesting to him, he destroys or kills. He has no regard for anyone or anything but himself.

But Jesus says he comes for our benefit, to give us life and that it will be life to the full. One translation says life, more and better than you ever imagined. Think about that; Jesus has come to bless us in ways that are beyond our wildest dreams. Think about the best thing you can; the thing you want most, the best relationship you can imagine with your spouse, contentment and not a worry or care in the world. Jesus says he came to give us more than that. That is not to say we will get everything we most desire, or that our relationships will be easy. But with the help, the guidance, and the faith in God, it will be even better!

It simply requires us to come to Jesus, to commit ourselves to him. It means we will begin to look at things through his eyes, we will see from his perspective. And the things that we might have thought were so good before, we will realize were not what they appeared to be. But it is our choice, we simply have to decide we are going to live God’s way.

Father, thank you for your unimaginable blessings. In Jesus’ name, amen.
