Work proceeds on electric connection

Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative is continuing to work at Oregon Inlet on the electric connection.

This short video shows a Lee Electric worker severing the old conduit and cable at the south end of the old bridge.

The cooperative announced planned power outages for 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday to facilitate the switch to new transmission cable. Since about 8:15 a.m., Hatteras and Ocracoke have been operating on generator power.

Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative issued this statement around 12:30 p.m. Monday afternoon:

“Due to extenuating circumstances, Cape Hatteras Electric members will remain on generator power while crews work to replace equipment in the Oregon Inlet substation. While load is currently manageable, we ask that our members continue to make reasonable efforts to conserve electric use. We will update you on our progress as information becomes available. Thank you in advance for your patience.”
