Inaugural Salt Marsh Award presented to Erin Fleckenstein

The Dare Soil & Water Conservation District awarded the inaugural Salt Marsh Award to Erin Fleckenstein on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 during a short ceremony with her peers and colleagues.

The Salt Marsh Award was founded to recognize individuals that make outstanding contributions to the conservation of natural resources in Dare County, with a particular focus on combating erosion, runoff and other water quality issues, stated the announcement of the award.

Fleckenstein has served on the Soil & Water Conservation Board for more than a decade and was instrumental in preserving the soil and water district during the COVID-19 pandemic. Fleckenstein now heads the oyster program for the North Carolina Coastal Federation and has been involved with the implementation of many living shorelines in Dare County, including Moor Shore Road in Kitty Hawk, Jockey’s Ridge State Park in Nags Head and Durant’s Point in Hatteras Village.
