John E. Herbert Jr.

John E. Herbert Jr., 92, of St. Petersburg, Florida, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2024. He was born in Rodanthe, NC, on April 16, 1932 to the late John E. Herbert Sr. and the late Nora Midgett.

John married Margaret M. Herbert on July 18, 1953, and they were married for 62 years before she passed away in 2015. He retired from the US Coast Guard and Veterans Hospital.

The family has an extensive history of serving our country in the US Coast Guard, and John enjoyed sharing his stories with others.

He is predeceased by his wife, Margaret M. Herbert, two sisters, Nora Roadcap and Jazania O’Neal. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Frances Ferkowicz, children, Mary Ann (Doug) Eccels, Elizabeth Herbert, Carolyn Sue (Kevin) Tucek; John Allen Herbert, Bobby James Herbert; grandchildren; Susan M. (Ian) Moreland, Rebecca Eccels, Michelle (Greg) Butcher; Brian (Cassie) Siniscalchi, Josh Tucek, David (Megan) Tucek, Jeremy Tucek; great-grandchildren Carson Moreland and Reese Moreland; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many extended family members in the Outer Banks.

Gathering of family and friends will be held from 9:30-11:30 a.m. on May 23 at Anderson McQueen – Northeast Chapel, 2201 MLK Street N, St. Petersburg, Florida. Celebration of life will follow at 11:30 a.m. Burial will take place at 2 p.m. at Sarasota VA National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota, Florida.
