Shooting in Manteo leaves one hospitalized; investigation ongoing

One person has been hospitalized as the result of a shooting that took place in Manteo on Thursday evening.

According to a news release issued by the Town of Manteo on Friday morning, the Manteo Police Department responded to a shooting early in the evening on Thursday, August 10, 2023 in the 600 block of Sir Walter Raleigh Street.

“The investigation is ongoing. We can confirm that one individual is hospitalized as a result of the shooting,” stated the release. “This was an isolated incident and there is not a threat to the general public.”

The injured woman was transported via Dare MedFlight to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

It was stated that charges will be pursued in this case.

“Our thoughts are with the injured and we pray for a full recovery,” noted the release.

The Manteo Police Department expressed thanks to the Dare County Sheriff’s Office, Roanoke Island Volunteer Fire Department, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Nags Head Police Department, North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, Dare County Emergency Medical Services and The Outer Banks Hospital for their assistance.

“Please know that the Manteo Police Department stands ready to help mediate disagreements in our community and discourages resorting to any violence including gun violence,” the release continued.
