Miss Katie completes Hatteras Inlet dredging project
Dare County has announced that Miss Katie, the 156-foot-long shallow-draft hopper dredge that is tasked with tackling shoaling issues in various waterways throughout the region under the direction of the Oregon Inlet Task Force, completed a 10-day dredging project in Hatteras Inlet on Sunday, February 5, 2023.
Miss Katie began dredging Hatteras Inlet on Friday, January 27, 2023 and, upon completion of the project on February 5, had successfully dredged 14,172 cubic yards of sand from the inlet at a cost of approximately $220,000.
“Dare County is committed to keeping area waterways and inlets open and navigable for commercial and recreational fishermen, allocating $250,000 in local funding for dredging within Hatteras Inlet each year,” stated a Dare County press release. “A 75 percent match that is allocated to Dare County by the State of North Carolina provides an additional $750,000 in funding for dredging projects within Hatteras Inlet.”
