It’s National Volunteer Week

This National Volunteer Week, April 7-13, the National Park Service commends volunteer Harry Dollarhide for his dedication and time spent volunteering at Wright Brothers National Memorial. His passion for aviation and his service in the United States Air Force creates an engaging and unique experience for park visitors.

“I enjoy volunteering because it gives me the opportunity to meet people and provide for the community,” Dollarhide said.

“Harry has been an outstanding volunteer at Wright Brothers National Memorial for the past six years,” said park ranger Amiee Ginnever. “Harry is an absolute joy to work with. He always has a smile and the knowledge to answer any question.”

Dollarhide moved to the Outer Banks with his wife in 2012. Prior to volunteering with the National Park Service, Dollarhide retired from the United States Air Force after 26 years of service and worked for the Department of Defense as a civilian employee for 19 years. He also volunteers for the Dare County Home Delivered Meals Program.

In 2018, some 336 volunteers worked in the Outer Banks Group of National Parks. The volunteers contributed 23,998 hours of service.

Wright Brothers National Memorial, Cape Hatteras National Seashore and Fort Raleigh National Historic Site welcome volunteers. To view a list of current volunteer opportunities, visit volunteer.gov or call 252-475-9042 for more information.
