Having fun while cleaning up the Town of Manteo

The Rodney “Crow” Murray Town of Manteo Litter Pick Up Event in May brought over 56 volunteers to help pick up trash.

Volunteers, including military personnel from Camp Lejuene, Scouts, Manteo Rotarians, students, OBX Go Far participants and many others, rolled out to help pick up litter and trash across the marshes and the Town of Manteo. Volunteers were in concert with Manteo town staff that helped collect the litter and other items across town limits. North Carolina Coastal Federation staff, directed by Sara Hallis, led the water-based clean up for the day.

The day kicked off at the Roanoke Maritime Museum and Historic Boathouse with complimentary coffee from Front Porch Cafe and Dunkin Donuts and ended in a celebration and pizza from Garden Deli and Pizzeria.

The day was filled with fun, food, hard work and neighbors helping neighbors of all ages. Trash collected included cigarette butts, household items, abandoned crab pots, clothing, litter and some unusual trash.

The town’s next Litter Pick Up Day will be held in November.
