Ocracoke after Dorian: The assessment and clean-up begins

The Hyde County Sheriff’s Office reports that water has started to drain off Ocracoke Island after being inundated with floodwater as a result of Hurricane Dorian and the clean-up and assessment process has begun. Search and rescue teams as well as deputies and Ocracoke Volunteer Fire Department crews are going door to door checking on residents and offering water and MREs to those who stayed home.

Crews from all over the North Carolina are on Ocracoke Island, HCSO states, and are providing much needed help on the ground. Helicopters have continued to bring supplies and personnel to the island for the teams on the ground to disperse or use as needed.

“Sheriff Cahoon would like to send out a special thanks to all the agencies who have sent help, rather it be personnel or supplies and asks for continual prayer for the people of Hyde County, especially Ocracoke Island,” said the release. “Times are going to rough and the recovery process is going to be long, but we will get through it as a community.”
