Holidays on Hatteras set for Dec. 8

Holidays on Hatteras will be held Dec. 8, noon to 5 p.m. at the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum in partnership with the Hatteras Village Civic Association.

This is the 8th year for this museum holiday tradition.

The village’s annual parade kicks off at 2 p.m. to wind through the village.

At the museum, enjoy festive live music including the Cape Hatteras High School Band, which performs at 3 p.m. Parade winners and the winner of the decoy raffle, a loon hand-crafted by Sam Green, will be announced at 3:30 p.m.

View elaborate decorations including multi-themed trees. Enjoy Charlie Klein’s “Winter Wonderland” train display. Back by popular demand is Karen Serfling’s miniature house, “J. Daughter’s Delight.” New this year is Brenda Starr’s vintage doll collection surrounding the base of the museum’s Cape Hatteras Fresnel lens.

Kids enjoy cookie decorating, ornament making, holiday cartoons and letters to Santa.

Weather permitting, the Hatteras Village Civic Association will have Pirate and Castle bouncy houses set up on the Museum lawn. Hot soups, chili, cookies and punch will be served while they last.

Artists and authors will be onsite to sell their creations.

Bring a donation for the local food bank to receive a five percent discount in the Meekins Chandlery Gift Shop. View exhibits in the Burrus-Couch-Midgette Gallery during the event including a new WWI exhibit.

All activities, food and exhibits are free and are appropriate for all ages.

Festivities center on Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum at 59200 Museum Drive, Hatteras. For additional information, call 252-986-0723 or email maryellen.riddle@ncdcr.gov.
