North Carolina man sentenced to more than five years in prison for ammunition charge
A Rich Square man was sentenced on August 5, 2021 to 63 months in prison for felon in possession of ammunition, according to a September 29 press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of North Carolina. Rasean Bolden, 39, pleaded guilty to the charge on April 2, 2021.
According to court documents and other information presented in court Bolden got into a verbal altercation with two men in the area of Highway 308 and Highway 258 in Rich Square. Deputies from the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the area following a report that one of the men had been shot and beaten, according to the release.
“Deputies located the victim who had injuries to his head and jaw and was transported by emergency services to a local hospital where he survived,” stated the release. “Deputies also recovered spent shell casings in the area where the shooting occurred. Bolden has several felony drug convictions and was a prior target of the Down East Drug Task Force for drug distribution in Northampton County. Bolden also has a prior conviction for conspiracy to commit robbery and many misdemeanor convictions.”
G. Norman Acker III, acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina, made the announcement after sentencing by Chief U.S. District Judge Richard E. Myers II. The Northampton County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case and Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert J. Dodson prosecuted.
