Roanoke Island Garden Club gears up for holiday decorating

The Roanoke Island Garden Club has announced it will not be having its Plant and Yard Sale this fall. The club plans to have plenty of plants and yard sale items next spring.

Members are making plans for the club’s annual holiday decorating of downtown Manteo. Several members gathered recently at the Maritime Boat Museum to unpack and prepare wreaths for distribution to businesses participating in the Christmas wreath decorating contest, an event the club and the Town of Manteo sponsor annually. The businesses’ decorated wreaths are to be delivered to Town Hall by 2:50 p.m. on Tuesday, December 3. New this year – wreaths will be judged by “People’s Choice” from 3 to 5 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to attend and vote.

The club’s November meeting will be on Thursday, November 14 at the Maritime Boat Museum. Additional prepping of decorations will start at 10:30 a.m., followed by refreshments and a business session.

Decorating downtown is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on November 30. Members are asked to bring live greens to supplement decorations as well as clippers and gloves. Anyone interested in assisting members decorate are welcome to enjoy the fun.
