The Town of Columbia has scheduled a used tire collection for residents of the town on Wednesday and Thursday, April 17 and 18.
Residents should have all old tires stacked at the sidewalk or street side for pick up on those dates.
Tires must be off the rims and free of debris and water. Any tires still on the rims or tires that contain dirt or other debris cannot be picked up.
Tires will be picked up by town employees and transported to the Tyrrell County solid waste collection site on Smith Lane, where Tyrrell County employees will handle theit proper disposals.
“Help us clean up unsightly tires and eliminate a favorite breeding source for mosquitoes during this special clean-up effort,” said Mayor James Cahoon in calling for townwide cooperation as he announced the project during the April 1 aldermen’s meeting.
