Arrests made in connection with 2023 murder of Plymouth man

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has reported on the arrests of two individuals in connection with a 2023 homicide.

According to a news release from the SBI, on November 1, 2023, the SBI received a request from the Plymouth Police Department to assist with a murder investigation at 207 Brinkley Ave. in Plymouth. “Curtis Hamilton, of Plymouth, was killed during an apparent robbery. One of the alleged assailants involved in the robbery was also killed,” stated the release. “The investigation revealed two additional suspects.”

Hamilton was 40 at the time of his death.

On January 27, 2025, Jonathan Dakota Machie, 19, of Wanchese, was arrested after a grand jury issued a true bill of indictment regarding the murder and robbery of Hamilton.

On January 29, 2025, Paul Elwood Duson III, 18, was arrested after a grand jury issued a true bill of indictment regarding the murder and robbery of Hamilton. While a town of residence was not available for Duson, he was arrested in Zebulon and has family ties to Plymouth.

Both have been charged with first degree murder and attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, according to the SBI.

Both are being held in the Washington County jail.

“The SBI would like to thank the Wake County Sheriff’s Office, the Dare County Sheriff’s Office, and the District Attorney’s Office of the Second Prosecutorial District for their assistance in bringing these suspects to justice,” stated the release.
