College of The Albemarle has announced that the opening reception for the “Seacycle” art exhibition featuring works by students and alumni of COA’s jewelry and art classes has been rescheduled for Friday.

The exhibition was originally scheduled to open last week, but due to the closures related to the winter weather, the reception was rescheduled for Friday, January 31, 2025 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The art gallery is on the second floor of B Building at COA – Dare, 205 US-64 in Manteo.

“Seacycle” showcases the exceptional craftsmanship of current and former COA students, highlighting skills honed through the college’s classes and the creative resources of Outer Banks artists. Each piece in the exhibition incorporates recycled, repurposed or found objects, reflecting the artists’ commitment to reducing wasteful practices through a mindful and artistic process.

Denise Turner, a past student of COA’s jewelry classes and an exhibiting artist in “Seacycle,” shared, “When I look back at my years in the jewelry program at COA, I recall my fondest memories are the collaborations with other artists and bouncing creative ideas between each of them. Being a part of this new exhibition has set a tone for my year, and I have enjoyed my time helping to contribute to it. I work with recycled materials most of the time and am happy to show some of my work in ‘Seacycle’ along with some fabulous COA artists past and present.”

Following the opening reception on Friday, January 31, the gallery will be open for viewing through Thursday, February 27. Hours are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Both the reception and the gallery are open to the public.
