The Outer Banks BeeKeepers’ Guild’s eighth annual Honey Tasting Contest was held recently in Kitty Hawk, with a fantastic mix of guild members, community bee enthusiasts, and distinguished guests.
The guild was honored to have John Marshall, regional director of the N.C. State Beekeepers Association and commercial beekeeper, Hannah Lee Leidy, food writer and digital editor for “Our State” magazine, and Stu Golliday, personal trainer and owner of Hammerheads Gym, as the judges for the two “Judges’ Choice” awards. “Their expertise added an extra layer of excitement to the competition,” noted a news release from the guild.
“A total of 14 outstanding local honey varieties were available to sample, making the contest a true showcase of the diverse and exquisite flavors that our OBX bees produce,” the release continued. “The competition was fierce, and the results are in!”
