The 9th annual Christmas in the Quarter festivities will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Saturday, December 14 in the village of Swan Quarter. All activities are centered around the Hyde County Government Center, located at 30 Oyster Creek Road.

Art and craft vendors will be set up on the ground floor level of the Government Center from 4-8 p.m. with a variety of hand-crafted and homemade wares. Several local food trucks will also be on hand with a good selection of food and drinks.

Throughout the event, there will be activities for children of all ages, including making reindeer food and writing letters to Santa. Seasonal music and Christmas caroling are also on the agenda.

The much-anticipated parade will begin at 4:30 p.m. with the “Littles Parade.” Children 6 and under will ride bicycles, tricycles, battery powered cars, wagons or walk in a short parade just around the Government Center. Parents are encouraged to accompany them on the route.

The customary parade with floats, vehicles, golf carts, pedestrians and even horses and their riders will follow. Santa and Mrs. Claus arrive on a Swan Quarter Volunteer Fire Department (SQVFD) fire truck as the last entry. Parade entries will be judged on “Best Overall” and “Most Christmas Spirit.”

Visits and photo opportunities with Santa and Mrs. Claus will take place inside the Government Center while seasonal music will get everyone in the holiday spirit.

Following the parade (beginning at 5:30 p.m.) the SQVFD, at 25 Oyster Creek Road, will serve hot dogs with all the fixings, chips and soda or water. Their much-sought-after fresh and hot funnel cakes will also be available.

Also at the fire station will be a free bicycle helmet giveaway for children ages 5-15. This is made possible by the NC Department of Transportation. Volunteers will be on hand to help fit the children with the proper size helmet and provide information on bicycle safety and proper helmet use.

The SQVFD will have tee shirts for adults and youth for sale, along with their newest fundraiser, a 2025 calendar that includes an opportunity to enter drawing to win a firearm during the 2025 year.

The Friends of Hyde County’s Historic 1854 Courthouse will be in the SQVFD with Hyde County mugs for sale. Those who purchase a mug will be entered into a drawing for a fabulous gift basket.

“The public is invited to begin their holiday season with this family-oriented event which also supports local vendors and organizations,” welcomed event organizers.
