Downtown Books has announced it will welcome Ira David Wood III back to Roanoke Island for the inaugural event celebrating the release of his latest novel, The Bittersweet Voyage of the Golden Ship Hatteras – “a deeply moving love story set on the Outer Banks of North Carolina at the turn of the century,” noted the event announcement. Early reviews have called the novel “A writer’s loving tribute to a place, its history and its people.”
Wood will be in conversation with Downtown Books team member and Manteo resident Bill Massey at the College of The Albemarle, Veteran’s Hall, in Manteo on Thursday, November 21 at 6 p.m. for a discussion about his book, the theatre, friendship and life, with time for audience questions and a book signing to follow.
Wood is an award-winning actor, director and author. A graduate of The University of North Carolina School of the Arts, he was raised in Enfield and spent his college years as a leading actor in The Lost Colony, the oldest outdoor drama in the country. From 2013-16, he served as director of The Lost Colony. He is the founder of Theatre In The Park in Raleigh. His musical-comedy stage adaptation of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens has been cited as “one of the most successful shows in North Carolina theatre history.” His published works include A Lover’s Guide To The Outer Banks, Confessions Of An Elf, Finale, The JFK Assassination Chronology, and The Russian Galatea. The father of three children, Wood and his wife Ashley are proud to call North Carolina “home.”
