During the overnight hours of Nov. 14-15, an unoccupied house collapsed at 23241 Surf Side Drive in Rodanthe, reported Cape Hatteras National Seashore.
Efforts to respond to and begin cleanup operations were limited Friday morning due to severe weather conditions and the closure of N.C. Highway 12 between the Basnight Bridge and Rodanthe.
Cape Hatteras National Seashore is also monitoring unoccupied threatened structures at G A Kohler Court and Sea Oats Drive.
“The beach in front of Rodanthe is temporarily closed due to hazardous debris,” noted the Friday morning CHNS release. “The Seashore is also urging its visitors to avoid the beach and ocean for potentially many miles to the south of Rodanthe.”
CHNS noted it is in communication with the owner of 23241 Surf Side Drive.
Six houses have collapsed in Rodanthe since May 2024. Learn more about the threatened oceanfront structures that border CHNS at go.nps.gov/cahatos.
