This fall Dare Arts welcomed new program director Robert Rogers and arts administrator Karah Young to their team.
“While expanding our community engagement programs and preparing for our 50th anniversary next year, it quickly became evident that we needed additional support,” said Dare Arts executive director Jessica Sands. “We are thrilled to welcome Robert and Karah to the fold. They bring new and inspiring perspectives to our organization!”
Rogers returns to the Outer Banks from Sarasota, Fla. where he was the community engagement manager for the Boys & Girls Club of Manatee County. Rogers brings a plethora of arts and community relations experience to the organization with previous roles in arts management, cultural programming, community engagement, art exhibitions, and special event development across the globe.
“This opportunity to support Dare Arts’ mission is truly a full circle moment for me,” said Rogers. “Having spent the last 30 years wandering the planet in pursuit of my passion for community-engaged arts and collaborative practices, I am incredibly happy to be back home, making a contribution to the Outer Banks’ thriving cultural landscape. My experience has taught me that creative expression that emerges from communities of people working together improves their individual and collective experiences. Art truly is a universal language!”
As Dare Arts heads toward its 50th anniversary in 2025, the organization has contracted Young as an arts administrator who will be helping with preparation for the anniversary along with special events, exhibits and administrative tasks next year.
Young is currently finishing her last online class at UNC Greensboro’s College of Visual and Performing Arts, where she is set to graduate in December with a Bachelor of Arts in Arts Administration. Before coming to Dare Arts, Young worked as an intern at the Arts of the Albemarle in Elizabeth City, where she gained knowledge and experience in community events, sponsor outreach, and day-to-day operations.
“My time at Dare Arts has been amazing so far, and engaging with the lovely community of downtown Manteo has been a refreshing change of pace for me,” said Young. “I am so excited about the opportunity to work with the wonderful staff here, and I am greatly honored to have been brought on to assist with the 50th anniversary next year! As an addition to the team, I hope to serve as a beneficial asset to keep the mission of Dare Arts going for years to come.”
