The Cape Hatteras Secondary School’s volleyball team wrapped up its regular season on Thursday, October 17 with a heartbreaking loss to a tough Bear Grass team.
The Hurricanes celebrated their four seniors before the match. “Elizabeth Fairbanks, Madison Fiscus, Lydia Hooper, and Shaytna Trejo have been huge contributors to the Hurricane Volleyball program and will be missed next year,” noted a CHSS news release.
The varsity team members finished the regular season 16-6 and were co-conference champs with the Bear Grass Bears.
Senior middle blocker Elizabeth Fairbanks finished the regular season as the #1 hitter in 1A East, #1 in all Class 1A, and 20th in all of NCHSAA high schools in kills for the season.
Junior setter Eryn Ratliff is ranked #3 in 1A East, #5 overall class 1A, and #38 in all NCHSAA schools in assists.
Both girls set career marks the past week, with Fairbanks notching her 500th kill in her career and Ratliff hitting the 1000th assist mark.
The Lady Hurricanes were projected to host a home playoff game on Tuesday, October 22 versus Wake Prep Academy.
