Currituck County Schools has announced that Kellie Carter has been selected as its 2024 Exceptional Children’s Educator of Excellence.
“With an impressive career spanning 33 years dedicated to public education, Ms. Carter has been an invaluable member of the Currituck County Schools family since 2006,” stated the CCS announcement. “Throughout her 18 years of service in the district, Ms. Carter has made a profound impact through her work with students and her support for her colleagues, demonstrating extraordinary leadership and commitment to the district’s Exceptional Children’s Department and speech services.”
In addition to her role as lead speech language pathologist, Carter serves on the district’s Preschool Play-Based Evaluation Team and Exceptional Children’s Leadership Team. “In these roles, she ensures that best practices are implemented and that every decision prioritizes students’ needs. Her passion for education, meticulous attention to detail, and commitment to ethical practice have made her a true advocate for all students,” noted the announcement.
Jamie Miller, director of exceptional children for Currituck County Schools, praised Carter’s “unwavering dedication” and described her commitment to continuous growth as “inspiring.” Miller added, “Ms. Carter is a remarkable leader, selfless educator, ethical practitioner, and dedicated professional.”
Carter will now represent Currituck County Schools and be recognized at the state’s 73rd Conference on Exceptional Children in mid-November. The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction Office of Exceptional Children honors Educators of Excellence at a reception and presents the 2024 Educator of Excellence Award to nominees during the conference.
