Tyrrell Elementary School has announced the appointment of Teresa Dale as its new principal, effective October 14, 2024.
With more than two decades of experience in education, Dale “brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership skills to the role,” stated a Tyrrell County Schools news release. “She has dedicated herself to the Science of Reading and Early Literacy Initiatives, gaining firsthand experience as a Lead Cooperating 1st grade teacher at New Hanover County Schools. This practical approach has allowed her to better support beginning and veteran elementary educators in implementing effective literacy strategies.”
Before joining Tyrrell Elementary, Dale served as a school administrator in McDowell County, where she spent her career at the elementary and middle school levels. “Her leadership was instrumental in improving test scores at her previous school, raising them from a D to a C,” stated the release.
Dale began her career as an exceptional children’s teaching assistant before transitioning to elementary and middle-grade teaching. She later earned her master of school administration and education specialist degrees from Appalachian State University. As an administrator, she successfully implemented several initiatives, including a school-wide reading initiative that resulted in significant academic improvements.
“Ms. Dale fosters strong relationships with students, staff, and parents in rural communities. She is committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all students,” stated the release.
“I am honored to join the Tyrrell Elementary School community,” said Dale. “I look forward to working with our students, staff, and families to provide a high-quality education that prepares our students for success.”
