A new Nags Head commissioner will be appointed following the announcement of a board member’s resignation.

During the Wednesday, October 2, 2024 Nags Head Board of Commissioners meeting, commissioner Kevin Brinkley announced his resignation after relocating his residence beyond the town’s jurisdiction. North Carolina law requires elected officials to reside, and be eligible to vote, within the area they serve, noted a news release from the Town of Nags Head.

“Brinkley’s departure comes less than a year into his second term. The remaining Board members – Mayor Ben Cahoon, Mayor Pro Tem Mike Siers, and Commissioners Bob Sanders and Megan Lambert – will appoint a successor to fill the vacancy until the next election, slated for November 4, 2025,” stated the release. “The newly appointed member will serve the two remaining years of Brinkley’s term. Details of appointing a new commissioner will be forthcoming.”
