Kill Devil Hills traffic stop leads to drug arrest and out-of-state warrant service

The Dare County Sheriff’s Office has reported the arrest of a Virginia woman following a traffic stop on a drug charge.
According to a DCSO news release, at approximately 10:50 p.m. on August 18, 2024, deputies from the A-District of the Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the Sugar Planet PVA area of Kill Devil Hills.
“During the stop, a Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit was deployed and indicated the presence of an illegal controlled substance. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery and seizure of methamphetamine,” stated the release.
Crystal G. Shelton, 46, of Gloucester, Va., the vehicle’s passenger, was arrested at the scene. Shelton was charged with felony possession of methamphetamine. Additionally, she was served with an outstanding warrant for a case out of Virginia.
Shelton has been issued a $10,000 secured bond for the methamphetamine charge and a $100,000 bond for the extraditable warrant from Virginia.
