The Tyrrell County Sheriff’s Office has reported that on the morning of July 17, 2024, Nathaniel Brown, 23, of Columbia, was found on NC 94 South near the intersection of Elementary School Road suffering from gunshot wounds.

Brown was later pronounced dead at the scene by Washington-Tyrrell EMS paramedics.

“Within hours deputies were able to develop a suspect, and ultimately uncovered sufficient evidence to obtain warrants and arrest Amyrion Mccleese of Columbia for the murder of Nathaniel Brown,” stated a news release from TCSO.

TCSO expressed thanks to those who assisted in the case, including the Hyde County Sheriff’s Office, North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, Manteo Police Department, Washington-Tyrrell EMS and Tyrrell County Emergency Management.
