The Ocracoke sandbag replacement project is underway on NC 12.

NCDOT reports that over “the next month or so, our contractor will be replacing about 800 large sandbags that were damaged or displaced over the winter. When complete, the sandbags will establish a protective barrier between the ocean and the highway.

“Single lane closures will be in effect while the work progresses, so slow down and give them room to work!”
