Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church members are leaving one-inch Jesus figurines throughout the community, reminding people that “a little Jesus goes a long way.”
The youth group recently placed about 300 of the tiny Jesuses around the church. As people came to the church for Bible studies or meetings throughout the week, Pastor Marc O’Neal encouraged attendees to take a handful of them.
“Put them all around town,” he said to his congregants in an email. “Leave one at Poor Richards. Leave one at Dollar General. Leave one at Piggly Wiggly. Wherever it is you find yourself, leave a few. Then, when you are out and about, and you find one, take it and place it somewhere else. Then do it again, and again, and again, and again!”
Pastor O’Neal likened the project to painted stones or Jeep ducks, except that the mini Jesuses make three points: 1. There is nowhere that Jesus is not. 2. Jesus is always where you least expect Him. 3. A little Jesus goes a long way.
As church or community members place or find the figurines, he’s asking that they snap a picture and use the hashtag #LittleJesus and then tag the church in the post (or send to Pastor O’Neal and he’ll help).
“Let’s all do our part to spread a little Jesus over the next few weeks!” he added.
The Little Jesus project will run through Easter.
