A gray seal rests on the beach south of Jennette’s Pier in Nags Head last week.
Seals sometimes “haul out” to warm up in the sunshine while swimming past the Outer Banks during the winter months.
Those who see a seal or other marine mammals stranded on the beach are advised to call the OBX Marine Mammal Stranding Network at 252-455-9654 for the northern beaches. For strandings in the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, call 252-216-6892.
