For people already missing their weekly local farmers’ market, the Town of Nags Head is launching Winter Markets at Dowdy Park.
Monthly markets will be offered under the pavilion on the following dates: Saturday, January 13; Saturday, February 10; Saturday, March 9; and Saturday, April 13. Markets will run from 9 a.m. to noon, rain or shine.
“Fostering community engagement and providing our local businesses with a platform to showcase their products all year long has been a goal of Arts/Cultural Committee for a couple of years,” said Nags Head event coordinator Paige Griffin.
“The abundance of local vendors in our region led us to believe that hosting markets throughout the entire year would be beneficial,” she added.
The markets will include between 8-12 food producers – no craft vendors. All vendors must meet the requirements of USDA-EBT cards. Food may include fresh local vegetables, eggs, meat, goat cheese, granola, fresh juice and fermented foods. Baked goods are available including sweet breads, prepared pot pies and casseroles.
“We are seeking to support our community by ensuring a year-round availability of diverse food options, including those accessible to individuals receiving food and nutrition benefits,” Griffin explained.
Vendor lists can be found on the Dowdy Park Facebook page on Wednesdays prior to the Saturday markets.
The January market will be small, Griffin said, but additional vendors are expected in later markets. Food vendors interested in a space at the market can reach out to Paige.Griffin@NagsHeadNC.gov.
Dowdy Park is located at 3005 S. Croatan Hwy. Additional parking is available at Nags Head Elementary School.
