The Dare County Board of Commissioners’ first meeting in the New Year is set for Jan. 2, 2024 at 9 a.m. in the Commissioners Meeting Room, located at 954 Marshall C. Collins Drive in Manteo.
Two major plans are up for adoption: the 2022 land use plan and a stormwater master plan. The land use plan is available online in the Planning Department webpage at darenc.gov. The land use plan is slated for a public hearing.
Three additional planning matters will come to the board.
The 2023 Dare County audit for the year will be presented.
On Dec. 5, 2023, the county’s Audit Committee recommended to retroactively change the county’s nonprofit policy for those organizations receiving more than $100,000 per year to:
– Accept the IRS Form 990 as financial statements; and
– Require an annual agreed upon procedures engagement by a CPA firm, with three procedures listed.
This will primarily affect volunteer fire departments, which are having difficulty finding audit firms for nonprofits.
An update of the county’s financial policies is included in the agenda package for adoption.
