The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Outer Banks (UUCOB) is inviting the Outer Banks community to a screening of the musical and civil action documentary “Sing Your Song.” The event will be held on Friday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. at the UUCOB meetinghouse, located at 831 Herbert Perry Road, on the corner of Herbert Perry and Kitty Hawk roads.

This event is free and open to the public. Popcorn and non-alcoholic beverages will be served.

“Harry Belafonte was born in poverty in Harlem. He died this year,” stated a UUCOB press release. “When he was young, Harry was sent to Jamaica to live with family so he could have a better life. He returned to Harlem in his teens, and worked as a musician and an actor who won many accolades and awards all over the world during his lifetime.

“The movie showcases many of his magical performances. The documentary also provides details on the many causes Belafonte supported during his life, and how he participated in supporting them,” the release continued. “The last cause he worked for before his death was an end to gang violence. He worked for equal justice and freedom with great humility over the course of many years, counting both Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela as his friends. Through his peaceful efforts, he strove to make the world a better place for all of us.

“Come and bring friends to watch, learn, listen, and sway through this inspirational story.”
