Crews extinguish fire in Kill Devil Hills, damage contained to deck

The Kill Devil Hills Fire Department responded to a report of flames showing on the rear deck of a structure in the 200 block of West Atlantic Street on September 3, 2023 at 6:59 p.m.
According to a Kill Devil Hills Fire Department press release, the fire was extinguished and damage was contained to the outside rear deck of the structure. No injuries were reported and everyone, including three dogs, got out of the structure safely.
“When the firefighters arrived on scene, they heard the smoke alarms sounding,” noted the release. “Working smoke alarms are a critical part of fire safety.”
Fire crews from Colington and Nags Head, along with the Kill Devil Hills Police Department and Dare County EMS, were also on scene and assisted in the operation.
The Kill Devil Hills fire marshal is investigating to determine the fire’s origin.
