Dare County Sheriff’s Office issues June crime blotter

The Dare County Sheriff’s Office has released its crime blotter for June 2023 for unincorporated areas of the county.

Eight of 11 reported felony crimes are listed on Hatteras Island. Colington has two listed and Roanoke Island, one. Two reported crimes resulted in identifying the suspect followed by an arrest. A bank thwarted a forgery on a business account.

June 4: Larceny. 39000 block of Seashore Blvd, Avon. Smart watch reported stolen after it was delivered to a vacant rental house.

June 6: Larceny. 41000 block of NC 12, Avon. Jewelry stolen from rental home. Upon further investigation the Jewelry was recovered. A suspect was identified and arrested.

June 12: Forgery. 46000 block of NC 12, Buxton. Fraudulent checks written on a business account. The bank caught the attempted transaction and stopped it.

June 13: Breaking and Entering and Larceny. 40000 block of Westerly Lane, Avon. Residence broken into with tools and gaming system stolen. Upon further investigation, a suspect was identified and arrested.

June 15: Financial Credit Card Fraud. 57000 block Peerless Lane, Hatteras. Unauthorized transactions on the victim’s financial card. Occurred overseas.

June 20: Financial Credit Card Fraud. 100 block Sunset Drive, Colington. Unauthorized transactions on the victim’s EBT card. Occurred out of state.

June 22: Forgery. 1000 block of N 64/264 Hwy, Roanoke Island. Fraudulent checks written on a business account. Under investigation.

June 25: Obtaining Property by False Pretenses. 46000 block of Cape Hatteras Lane, Buxton. Online scam involving a vehicle purchase. Under investigation.

June 27: Obtaining Property by False Pretenses. 40000 block of NC 12, Avon. Phone scam where an unknown suspect pretended to be law enforcement and tricked the victim into wiring money out of the area.

June 28: Obtaining Property by False Pretenses. 400 block of Harbour View Dr., Colington. Victim sent money to someone on Facebook as part of a camper purchase scam. Under investigation.

June 30: Larceny. 25000 block of Bold Dune Dr., Waves. Fishing rods stolen from the back of a truck.
