Downtown Books will hold book signings this week with authors Nancy Gray and John Hairr. Both book signings will occur at Downtown Books, located at 103 Sir Walter Raleigh Street in Manteo.

The first signing will take place on July 12, 2023 from noon until 2 p.m. with Gray, who will be signing her latest title Sportfishing on the Outer Banks. Gray’s book focuses on the history of sport fishing on the Outer Banks, “whether fishing is a livelihood or a pastime, fishermen and fisherwomen invest in more than just catching.” She co-authored several books with her late husband, writer R. Wayne Gray, including Manteo, Lost Buffalo City and Corolla and the Currituck Outer Banks. Backstock of her previous releases will be available for purchase and signing as well.

The second signing, which lines up with “Shark Week,” will take place on Friday, July 14 from noon until 2 p.m. with Hairr, author of North Carolina Shark Attacks. Hairr’s book focuses on the fatal shark attacks that have taken place on the coast of North Carolina. As shark populations rebound in waters where humans congregate, local author Hairr tells forgotten tales of historic clashes between these two “apex predators.”
