Richard Eugene Gantt “Dickie” of Kitty Hawk, North Carolina died Sunday, July 9, 2023 after a short battle with cancer. He was 72 years young. Dickie was preceded in death by his parents Esley Eugene Gantt and Kathleen Harris Gantt, his daughter Kathleen Grey “Katie” Gantt, and recently his brother and best friend, Thomas Ezell “Tommy” Gantt.

Dickie moved to the Outer Banks in July 1973 to be closer to his grandfather, Thomas Jefferson “Jep” Harris with whom he enjoyed a mutual love of fishing. Once here, he worked with Rad Tillett as a carpenter. In working with Rad, he found what he loved to do, which became his lifelong career.

Dickie had a warm and loving heart which he showed caring for his mother in the last years of her life. Dickie also cherished his family including aunts, uncles, sisters, brothers, children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and close friends.

Dickie is survived by one daughter, Paige Sillies (Steve) of Southern Shores; two sisters, Sandra Callis (David) of Colerain, NC and Karen Gray (Walter) of Kitty Hawk; four grandchildren, Greysen, Myles, Lydia, and Vance; and nieces and nephews galore.  He is also survived by the mother of his children, Jane.

A graveside funeral will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Austin Cemetery in Kitty Hawk, NC. A gathering of friends and family will be held at the family home in Kitty Hawk after the funeral. Please share condolences with the family at www.gallopfuneralservices.com.
