Proposed budget, dredging funding, cluster housing project among items on the agenda for Dare commissioners

The Dare County Board of Commissioners meets Monday, June 5, 2023 in regular session in the Commissioners Meeting Room at 954 Marshall C. Collins Dr. in Manteo.
The meeting starts at 9 a.m.
On the agenda is a public hearing on the county manager’s proposed budget for fiscal year 2024. That hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m.
An annual report about Trillium Health Resources will be delivered by Dave Peterson, central regional director. Trillium is the care manager for individuals with serious substance use, mental illness and intellectual and developmental disabilities in eastern North Carolina.
Children and Youth Partnership for Dare County will also report on program and services provided to support children, families and early childhood professionals. Staff will provide an update on the current child care situation in Dare County.
The Wall That Heals project will be in Dare county Nov. 15 through 19, 2023. The Dare County Tourism Board awarded a $25,000 event grant for the project and the commissioners are asked to take appropriate action.
Hatteras Harbor emergency dredging is needed to address shoaling that is impeding use of the harbor’s entrance/exit. Commissioners are asked for $25,000 for the project. The state will provide $100,000.
Also on the agenda is consideration of a cluster housing development special use permit for a project in Manns Harbor, a proposal for opioid settlement funds, a Brightspeed service delivery update and financing for pickleball courts.
Under the consent agenda among the 12 items listed are approving a budget amendment for the Rodanthe Harbor bulkhead project, the Avon Fourth of July 2023 fireworks display, a quitclaim deed for Buxton Harbor, and local water supply and water shortages resolutions.
The Dare County Tourism Board is asking for consent to spend $115,000 from restricted funding for Visitors Bureau administrative office renovations, HVAC in the server room and construction of two additional offices.
Public comments on any agenda item or issue can be made in person in the Manteo meeting room. Public comment can also be made electronically from the Fessenden Center Annex, located at 47095 Buxton Back Road in Buxton.
