Currituck County Schools has announced a new partnership with New Story Schools, a program specializing in providing intensive social, behavioral and academic interventions to students with special needs.
“With the plan to house the northeast region’s very first New Story classroom at W.T. Griggs Elementary School beginning the 2023-2024 school year, the partnership expands our district’s Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) placement continuum and allows us to meet the needs of our students within our own community,” stated a Currituck County Schools press release. “The highly qualified staff of New Story Schools will become part of the W.T. Griggs Mallards’ family, immersing themselves entirely in location, camaraderie, and culture.”
Jamie Miller, director of exceptional children for Currituck County Schools, initiated the program and is working on final planning for implementation. New Story Schools serves students around the country in states such as Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Ohio. The Currituck County Schools location will be the first in North Carolina and “will bring more opportunities to support students’ growth and success not only within our district, but also through partnerships with neighboring districts,” the release continued.
