A new storage facility for Buxton won approval from Dare County’s commissioners in early March.

High and Dry LLC via John Canning submitted a special use permit application to construct a group development with two storage warehouses at 49251 NC 12 in Buxton.

An existing 1,500 square foot building will be expanded by 4,263 square feet. A second building of 939 square feet will be built for non-climate controlled storage units.

The easement driveway must be 20 feet wide with 13.6 feet high clearance. Night lights must be directed to the property not adjoining properties or rights-of-way.

The special use permit prohibits using storage units for residential or commercial purposes. No stored recreation vehicles, travel trailers or campers can be occupied or used for habitation.

The storage building site can be used between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. daily.

Canning has 36 months from March 6, 2023 to obtain building permits.

Dare County’s Planning Board has published its agenda for April 4, 2023.

Public comment is scheduled after approval of minutes.

The only business item is “Preliminary discussion on potential revisions of Section 22-31.1 Cluster Home Ordinance.”

On March 6, Dare’s commissioners asked for a review of the ordinance in light of the controversial development now proposed for Wanchese.
