Nags Head, NC – Douglas Maxwell Drummond, 79, of Nags Head, NC died at his home on Monday, January 23, 2023.

Born in Forsyth County on February 22, 1943, he was the son of the late Frances Mullins Drummond and Representative Daniel Lee Drummond.

Doug was an electrical estimator for EH Ives Corporation in Hampton Roads. Doug was part owner with his son, OBX Cards and Comics, for 16 years and part owner with his brother, Dwight, of Colington Park Campground. Doug was an avid stamp collector and a dedicated NASCAR fan for many years. His passion was reading and being an active member of Bethany United Methodist Church of Wanchese, of which he served on numerous committees.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Gayle Starcher Drummond; daughter, Dana Drummond Lavrinc (Jay); son, Daniel Maxwell Drummond; grandson, Christopher Maxwell Lecznar (Kristi); sister, Diane Tonge; and brother, Don Drummond; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by a grandchild, Alex Drummond Lecznar, and three brothers – Dan, David, and Dwight Drummond.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at Bethany Church of Wanchese. The family received friends and relatives for visitation on Friday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Twiford Funeral Home, Manteo. Burial will take place in Forsyth Memorial Park, Winston Salem.
