The North Carolina Education Lottery has reported that one North Carolinian who tried their luck in Wednesday’s Powerball drawing matched all five white balls to win a $1 million prize.
The lucky winner purchased their $2 ticket from The I market on Barber Boulevard in Waynesville in Haywood County.
The odds of matching numbers on five white balls are 1 in 11.6 million. The winner has 180 days from the drawing to claim the prize.
Since no one won the Wednesday, January 4 jackpot, the new jackpot for Saturday’s drawing will climb to $325 million as an annuity, or $165.2 million cash.
“Ticket sales from draw games make it possible for the lottery to raise on average more than $2.5 million a day for education,” stated a North Carolina Education Lottery press release.
