The Cape Hatteras Secondary School gymnasium was jammed with opportunity for the 2022 edition of the College and Career Fair on Nov. 17, 2022.
All students at the Hatteras Island school trooped through the displays. The sixth through eighth middle grades came first followed by high school students.
Island, county and regional businesses set up displays. Local and national government organizations displayed all types of jobs from emergency medical services to working at the U.S. Post Office.
The United States Coast Guard sent a contingent inside and a helicopter outside which landed on the athletic field. An Army representative was present too. Colleges came. And among all the displays were Cape Hatteras Secondary School graduates talking to students about their jobs and businesses and education or training.
Some of the Cape Hatteras Secondary graduates present at the fair were:
Boat Captains Johnny Fairbanks (2021) Island Time Charters and John Canning (2019) Hook Up Hatteras.
Avon Medical Clinic: Nurse Heather Gray Jennette (2004, valedictorian), Jamie Francis Fountain MD (1997, valedictorian).
Dare County: Dustin Peele (2003) is the purchasing agent and staffer in the county’s finance department. Also at the table with him was Katelin Kight, a public relations specialist with Dare County.
