First Flight girls and Camden boys were the top teams in a high school cross country meet at Barco on October 12.

Lucy Stecher, Morgan Miller and Tatum Dermatas took the first three finishing places in the girls event, which helped First Flight claim the team championship with an overall low 21 points.

Stecher’s time of 19:46 over the 5,000 meter course put her across the finish line 12 seconds ahead of Miller.

The Manteo Redskins were second in the team standings with 49 points, while Currituck County was third with 63 and Camden County fourth with 96.

Currituck’s Kylee Dinterman finished fourth with a time of 20:31 and in fifth with a time of 20:51, Madison Flynn was the first Manteo finisher.

In the boys meet, Jackson Hannon and Judah Lacroix provided a one-two punch for First Flight with respective times of 17:19 and 17:35, but it was Camden County who won with 31 points to First Flight’s second place 37. Currituck County boys were third with 54 and Manteo was fourth with 115.

Jason Mercer was the leading Currituck runner in fifth place with a time of 18:37, Luke Stevens finished first for Manteo with an 18th place finish at 19:44.
