Celebrate fine art at the 40th Annual New World Festival of the Arts, which will be held on the Manteo waterfront on Tuesday, August 16 and Wednesday, August 17.

The free, family-friendly outdoor festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day offering visitors the opportunity to peruse the works of over 45 east coast artists.

“I exhibit at juried shows across the country, but the New World Festival of the Arts holds a special place in my heart,” said Florida jewelry artist and metalsmith Barbara Umbel. “The care that the Dare Arts committee puts into producing their show is second to none. I love returning each year to Manteo – such a charming historic town.”

Ceramics, jewelry, wood design, photography, paintings, fiber art and sculpture are some of the media that artists will be showcasing and selling at the event.

“This will be my first year participating in the New World Festival of the Arts, and I am honored to be a part of the event,” said Outer Banks artist Noah Snyder, who combines fractal wood-burning and acrylic paint to create his pieces. “I am looking forward to hanging out with so many talented artists and meeting new people.”

Outer Banks fiber artist Beth Burns will judge this year’s New World Festival of the Arts. Burns works with a variety of natural fibers to create wearable art that highlights hand-dyed yarns and silks.

A special awards reception will be held on Tuesday, August 16 at 5 p.m. at Dare Arts in Manteo. In addition to announcing the award recipients and distributing prizes, the reception will celebrate the festival’s history and honor late founders Edward Greene and Claire Grieves. The reception is free and open to the public.

The New World Festival of the Arts is the longest-running outdoor art show on the Outer Banks. It was established in 1982 by Greene and Grieves to provide local and regional artists the opportunity to display and sell their creative work, while acquainting visitors with the historic Town of Manteo.

A free shuttle will be running from Manteo Elementary School, located at 701 N. Hwy 64-264 in Manteo, to downtown Manteo both days of the festival. Free parking is also available in downtown Manteo.
